Contributor Terms & Editorial Guidelines
Savannah Woman Magazine celebrates the women shaping Savannah’s story through meaningful articles, inspiring stories, expert insights, and conversations that empower our community.
We welcome qualified writers, professionals, business owners, and community leaders who want to contribute valuable content to our publication. To maintain our editorial standards, protect our brand, and preserve the value of our advertising and promotional opportunities, all contributors must follow the terms outlined below.
By applying to become a contributor, accepting an assignment, or submitting content for consideration, you agree to these Contributor Terms & Editorial Guidelines.
1. Contributor Eligibility
Contributors should have relevant knowledge, professional experience, personal insight, or expertise in topics that align with Savannah Woman Magazine’s mission and audience.
We welcome original perspectives from women in Savannah and the surrounding communities. Contributors must accurately represent their identity, qualifications, professional affiliations, and experience.
Acceptance into the contributor program is subject to editorial approval. Contributor status does not guarantee publication, assignments, or ongoing participation.
2. Article Submission Requirements
All submitted articles must be original work created by the contributor, unless prior written approval has been granted for other material.
Articles must:
- Align with Savannah Woman Magazine’s mission, audience, and editorial categories.
- Offer informative, educational, inspiring, or engaging value to readers.
- Be accurate, professionally written, and free of plagiarism.
- Include appropriate sources for factual claims, statistics, and quotations where applicable.
- Respect the privacy and legal rights of others.
- Avoid defamatory, discriminatory, misleading, or unlawful content.
Contributors may submit article ideas or accept assignments from the editorial team. All content is subject to editorial review, and submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
3. Editorial Authority and Publication Approval
Savannah Woman Magazine retains sole editorial authority over its content, publishing schedule, article placement, headlines, images, formatting, and final publication decisions.
Only individuals expressly authorized by Savannah Woman Magazine may approve, authorize, schedule, or confirm publication.
Contributors may not:
- Promise or guarantee publication of any article, story, interview, photograph, business feature, or other content to any individual, business, organization, or third party.
- Represent that a submission has been accepted, approved, scheduled, or will be published before receiving explicit written confirmation from the authorized editorial team.
- Commit Savannah Woman Magazine to publishing content on a particular date or in a particular format without written authorization.
- Negotiate or make commitments on behalf of the magazine regarding editorial coverage, promotional placement, advertising, sponsorships, or other commercial opportunities.
- Imply that they have authority to make editorial or commercial decisions for the magazine beyond the responsibilities expressly assigned to them.
Submitting an article, interviewing a person, collecting photographs, or communicating with a potential subject does not constitute approval for publication.
Unauthorized promises or representations may result in the rejection of submissions and termination of contributor status.
4. Prohibition on Self-Promotion and Unauthorized Promotional Content
Savannah Woman Magazine is an editorial publication, not a free advertising platform for contributors.
Contributors may not use their contributor status, article assignments, interviews, or submitted content primarily to promote their own businesses, products, services, paid programs, events, affiliate links, or commercial interests.
Unless expressly authorized in writing by the editorial team, contributors may not:
- Write articles that function as advertisements for their own businesses, products, or services.
- Insert sales pitches, promotional offers, discount codes, affiliate links, booking links, or calls to purchase into editorial articles.
- Use articles to generate leads, solicit clients, drive sales, or direct readers to their own commercial offerings.
- Present their businesses or services as editorial recommendations without appropriate editorial approval and disclosure.
- Use an article assignment as a means of obtaining free promotional exposure for themselves or their business.
- Submit promotional content disguised as independent editorial material.
A contributor biography may include the author’s name, professional credentials, a brief description of relevant expertise, and approved professional links, subject to editorial guidelines. This limited author identification does not authorize promotional content within the article itself.
Savannah Woman Magazine reserves the right to edit, remove, or reject content that is excessively self-promotional or does not meet its editorial standards.
5. Sponsored Articles, Business Features, and Paid Promotional Opportunities
Savannah Woman Magazine offers separate commercial opportunities that may include sponsored articles, paid business features, advertising placements, promotional campaigns, and other paid visibility opportunities.
These offerings are managed exclusively by the magazine’s authorized representatives and are subject to separate pricing, availability, approval, and written terms.
Contributors may not independently offer, sell, promise, arrange, negotiate, discount, or guarantee any paid or promotional placement on behalf of Savannah Woman Magazine without prior written authorization.
Contributors may not tell a business or individual that they will be featured, sponsored, advertised, interviewed, or otherwise promoted in the magazine unless the authorized editorial or commercial team has formally approved the arrangement.
Submitting an editorial article about a business, interviewing a business owner, or recommending a potential feature does not entitle that business to publication or promotional placement.
All requests for paid features, sponsorships, advertising, or promotional opportunities must be referred to the appropriate Savannah Woman Magazine representative.
Editorial contributions and commercial placements are separate. A contributor’s participation does not provide a business with free advertising or exempt it from the magazine’s applicable commercial terms.
Savannah Woman Magazine retains final authority over whether content is classified as editorial, sponsored, advertising, or promotional material. Paid or sponsored content will be identified as appropriate and in accordance with applicable disclosure requirements.
6. Editorial Review and Content Changes
Savannah Woman Magazine reserves the right to review, fact-check, edit, shorten, format, decline, update, or remove submitted content at its editorial discretion.
Editorial changes may include grammar, spelling, clarity, length, headlines, formatting, and style. Substantive changes that materially alter an author’s intended meaning may be referred back to the contributor for review.
Contributors must not publish, distribute, or represent an article as approved by Savannah Woman Magazine until the magazine has confirmed its acceptance.
The magazine determines publication dates, placement, presentation, and promotional use of accepted content.
7. Contributor Credit and Author Biography
Published contributors will generally receive an author byline and may provide a short professional biography and approved headshot.
An author biography may include the contributor’s professional title, relevant qualifications, business name, website, or social media profile, subject to editorial approval and space limitations.
Being a contributor does not constitute employment, a staff position, a partnership, an endorsement, or authorization to represent Savannah Woman Magazine.
Contributor recognition is not a guarantee of business referrals, advertising, audience growth, or commercial results.
8. Compensation and Expenses
Unless a separate written agreement states otherwise, contributing authors participate on a voluntary, unpaid basis.
Savannah Woman Magazine does not guarantee payment, royalties, commissions, advertising, business leads, or other financial benefits from editorial contributions.
Contributors are responsible for their own expenses unless an expense has been approved in writing in advance.
Paid assignments, sponsored content, and other compensated arrangements will be governed by separate written agreements.
9. Copyright and Permission to Publish
Contributors retain ownership of the original copyright in their submitted work, subject to any separate written agreement.
By submitting an article, contributors confirm that they have the right to submit the work and that it does not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights.
If Savannah Woman Magazine accepts an article for publication, the contributor grants Savannah Woman Magazine a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, promote, and archive the accepted work in connection with the magazine, its website, newsletters, social media accounts, and related promotional activities.
This license includes reasonable editing, formatting, excerpting, and promotional use, provided the work is not materially misrepresented.
Contributors may republish their work elsewhere, provided they do not violate any separate written agreement and acknowledge its original publication by Savannah Woman Magazine, preferably with a link to the published article.
Contributors must obtain the necessary permissions for third-party photographs, graphics, quotations, and other protected materials they submit.
10. Accuracy, Ethics, and Conflicts of Interest
Contributors are responsible for the accuracy of their submissions and must disclose relevant conflicts of interest, financial relationships, affiliations, or personal interests that could affect the presentation of a topic.
Articles must not contain fabricated information, undisclosed paid endorsements, misleading claims, or unauthorized use of another person’s work.
Contributors must not present personal opinions, business relationships, or commercial interests as independent editorial endorsements.
Savannah Woman Magazine may request corrections, supporting sources, additional information, or disclosures before publication.
11. Photographs and Other Media
Contributors must have the necessary rights and permissions for all photographs, illustrations, videos, and other media they submit.
Images must be suitable for publication and accurately represented. Contributors must provide appropriate credits and obtain necessary permissions from rights holders and identifiable individuals when required.
Savannah Woman Magazine may decline materials that do not meet its editorial, technical, or legal requirements.
12. Professional Conduct and Confidentiality
Contributors are expected to communicate respectfully and professionally with the editorial team, interview subjects, sources, and other members of the Savannah Woman community.
Contributors must not disclose confidential editorial communications, unpublished content, private source information, or internal business information without authorization.
Contributors may not use confidential information or access gained through the contributor program for personal, commercial, or unauthorized promotional purposes.
Harassment, knowingly false statements, misuse of confidential information, unauthorized commercial commitments, or attempts to improperly influence editorial decisions may result in termination of contributor status.
13. Corrections and Removal of Content
Savannah Woman Magazine aims to maintain accurate and responsible editorial content.
Contributors should promptly notify the editorial team of material errors discovered after publication. The magazine will review correction requests and determine appropriate action.
The magazine may update, correct, unpublish, or remove content when warranted by factual, legal, ethical, editorial, or operational considerations.
14. Contributor Status and Termination
Participation in the contributor program is voluntary and does not guarantee a minimum number of assignments, publications, or a continuing relationship.
Contributors may discontinue participation by notifying the editorial team in writing. Savannah Woman Magazine may also suspend or terminate contributor participation at its discretion.
Termination does not automatically require the removal of previously published articles. Continuing publication rights and requests concerning previously published content will be handled under these terms and any applicable separate agreement.
15. Independent Contributor Relationship
Contributors participate independently and are not employees, agents, or legal representatives of Savannah Woman Magazine.
Contributors may not enter into agreements, incur obligations, collect payments, or make representations on behalf of the magazine unless expressly authorized in writing.
Contributors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, professional obligations, and expenses, as applicable. Nothing in these terms creates an employment relationship, joint venture, or partnership.
16. Changes to These Terms
Savannah Woman Magazine may update these terms and editorial guidelines as its publishing practices evolve. Material changes will be communicated to active contributors when appropriate.
Separate written agreements may supplement these terms for specific assignments or commercial arrangements.
17. Acceptance of Terms
By applying to become a contributor, accepting an editorial assignment, or submitting an article for consideration, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these Contributor Terms & Editorial Guidelines.
You understand that contributor status does not authorize you to promise publication, offer advertising or paid promotional placements, or use editorial articles for unauthorized self-promotion.
You also understand that Savannah Woman Magazine retains final editorial and commercial authority over its publication and paid opportunities.
